Freddies post a good showing at the Summer Shootout, finishing 2nd place in Pool Play

The Fightin' Freddies has a strong Summer Shootout Showing, posting a record of 2-1-1, ending the first day 1 goal shy of perfect.

The Freddies opened up against True Wisconsin Green an jumped out to an early lead behind the play of attackmen Alex Blum and Grant Thompson. But True Wisconsin wasn't going to go away easily, as they answered the Freddies goal for goal for the rest of the game. But in the end, solid goal tending from Skyler Weil and dominance at the faceoff X proved too much and the Freddies took game 1 by the score of 6-4.

Game 2 featured the Freddies against True Southside White. Faceoff dominance again proved to be the name of the game. The Freddies never looked back, taking an early lead and finishing off the Southsiders 6-3.

The last game of day 1 was a tough matchup against True Nebraska High School. The teams were evenly matched with good faceoff play and strong offense from both sides. The back and forth affair came down to the last three minutes of the game, with the Freddies leading 7-5. But a late surge from the Huskers brought the score to 7-7 and resulted in a tie, moving the Freddies into 2nd place in pool play behind the team they had just tied.

Sunday's game proved to be a tough one against the eventual champions True IL NW All Stars. Faceoff dominance by the All Stars set the tone for the game, with True opening up a 0-3 lead before the Freddies answered back. The wear and tear of a short roster and long games was finally too much for the Freddies, who despite solid efforts again from Alex Blum and Will Clemens, fell short 5-10.

A great weekend in all for the Freddies though. The Coaches are pleased with the play from the guys and are looking forward to putting it together in the Winter at the Big Freeze.
